Boston Psychologist
I'm a clinical psychologist based in Boston, MA, seeing clients virtually throughout Massachusetts. I provide individual therapy to adults of all ages.
Our pain and areas of vulnerability are connected to what we care about deeply. I offer a safe, non-judgmental space where we can explore together what’s been challenging, what matters most to you, and the kind of change you want to see in your life.
Dr. Kristen Bettencourt, PsyD
I completed my doctorate in psychology from William James College and trained at The Stone Center at Wellesley College, Tufts Medical Center, and Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates — bringing a depth of clinical experience to every client I work with.
I believe therapy works best when it feels like a genuine collaboration. My approach is warm and engaged, but also direct — I'm here to help you make real change, not just talk about it.
When I'm not working, you'll find me on a walk in the woods with my dog Juniper, on a yoga mat, or at home with my cats Tego and Elliott.
Areas of Focus
I work with adults across a range of concerns — including relationship difficulties, life transitions, grief, academic and career challenges, and creative blocks. My practice also includes specialized treatment for three areas that bring many clients through the door:
Depression
Depression doesn't always look the way people expect. For high-achieving students and professionals — including those at Harvard, Boston-area universities, and competitive prep schools — it often hides behind productivity. If you've been going through the motions while feeling disconnected from what used to matter, that's worth paying attention to.
Anxiety
In high-pressure academic and professional environments, anxiety can pass for ambition for a long time. Eventually it becomes exhausting. I help clients — including Ivy League students and those on that path — build a different relationship with anxiety, one driven by values rather than fear.
Not sure where to start? I offer a free 15-minute consultation — no commitment, no pressure.
OCD
I provide specialized ERP (Exposure and Response Prevention) therapy for OCD. For high-functioning individuals, OCD often hides behind conscientiousness and high standards. The goal is a life where you — not your OCD — are making the decisions.
